Off to crate start!

Coventry Report written by Laura Denham

5 GoodGymers helping out at Carriers of Hope this eve. We gathered at the warehouse and were quickly assigned tasks. Firstly we sorted large trolleys full of donations into organised crates. Then, we checked the tins for expiry dates , bagged toilet rolls, stacked nappies with elastic bands and assembled baby kits with all the essentials. The baby bags included some teddies from Blue Coates school with adorable handmade tags, warmly welcoming families to Coventry.

Great job team, we accomplished a lot tonight! Looking forward to hearing what you did with your ricotta cheese :)

Jet set go!

Coventry Report written by Laura Denham

11 GoodGymers returned to Harmony Hub on this sunny Tuesday eve. We were to meet James and Jackie there while Nigel, looking cool on his bike, cycled over with the rest of us put our running shoes to work. Huge cheers to Stuart for his first run with us and yippee to Jill wearing her new GoodGym Tee with pride this eve.

We picked up where we left off last week, tossing all the junk in the skip. Everyone dove right in and the skip was overflowing in no time, a couple of us rescued a few treasures to take home too :)

Graeme and Nigel were busy potting up some faux trees for the entrance, bringing some fake freshness to the place. We had a giggle with the jet wash when it started off as a sad little trickle but together we got it working. Maddie and Jackie took on the mission of washing the grime off the path and patio making it a lot cleaner and brighter by the finish. A few of the team worked on cleaning up the pram store and collecting items to be thrown from the adjoining nursery car park.

More litter picking was also needed this week, filling a few more bags. Sadly, keeping this place clean is a full time gig!

All in all, lots more great work done here tonight. Thank you everyone!

There is more to be done so make sure you get signed up to our next visit on the 14th May.

If you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the stain

Coventry Report written by Laura Denham

With a double session tonight, a dynamic team of 10 goodgymers took on 2 tasks. Five headed to Clothing Coventry while the other five took on Bevan Court.

Georgia and Laura D kicked off at Starley gardens with a warm up and then dashed to Bevan Court. After just missing a massive downpour we enjoyed a sunny jog to join the rest. We bumped into Greame on the way who joined the run with us, what a trooper after his marathon on Sunday!

James and Jackie were already there when we arrived and we were all led outside where a number of benches and a table were ready for staining. We cracked on with the job armed with brushes and a couple of paint tins. The weather was all over the place and the heavens opened again, risking the stain washing off but that didn't stop us! We powered through finishing in record time and ending with a rainbow.

Well done everyone, we might need a revisit but guess they will have to see what they look like tomorrow, fingers crossed for a dry night!

Did we Go Banana's or Keep Calm and Carrot On?

Coventry Report written by Laura Denham

Tonight a squad of 10 Goodgymers made their way over to Carriers of hope, ready and raring to go. We welcomed Jill Ashley on her first good deed, it was great to meet you :)

Our first mission? Bagging up fruit and veg for tomorrows food hub. With the precision of a well oiled machine the team formed a production line, stuffing bags with a range of items such as peppers, bananas, carrots and potatoes. Maddie, Georgia, Jill, Nigel zipped through the line up with the efficiency of seasoned pro's.

James did a 'crate job' of sifting through the crates to locate the larger ones, which Tasha then swiftly filled with the fruit and veg bags. Greame was appointed as bog roll commander skillfully packing up a duo of loo rolls per bag, ready for people to pick up with their bag of goodness tomorrow.

Stuart stepped onto the scene and was handed the mission of organizing the camping gear, with help from James and Nigel, and Laura rescued an empty tent bag which she decided could be an ideal litter picker holder! (it worked a treat as well - perfect fit!)

Maddie also completed some office work while the rest of the veg production line cleared up.

After taking the scenic route aka getting lost, Joe sauntered in just in time for the tea break - well played Joe! ha! At least you know where it is for next time!

Everyone did a fantastic job, well done gang!

See you next week for more doing good and keeping fit Laura x

Nice one to Maddie and Nigel for puns - I couldn't decide so went with both!

Weeding in the moonlight

Coventry Report written by Laura P (she/her)

On GoodGym Coventry's 5th birthday, 8 GoodGymers met at the Foleshill Library to support with their garden project. Our task for the evening was to shift three tonnes of soil from the pavement outside to the garden area to create a community garden space.

With three wheelbarrows, shovels and some GoodGym magic, we made quick work of moving the soil and spreading it into position by the light of the moon (and some phone torches!), and lots of weeds were removed from the borders too.

Well done all! We will be back at the library soon for more soil shifting and perhaps some digging next time too.
