Find out about GoodGym TaskForce

Share the love

7 do gooders hit the streets and join forces to take on a task at Kori along with enduring a rather fun wall sit.

Other than himself he brought along a cool little gadget that I’ll get onto later

Here at GoodGym we’re starting as we mean to go on across all boroughs. GGers far and wide are committing to their wellbeing and running over the weekend, this includes Friday night. This was no normal Friday night however. I really feel as If something new is on the horizon (for GGH at least). We were blessed to have the legendary Patrick Luong join us for our Friday night starter session and in his continued lege status he brought a great dynamic to the group. Other than himself he brought along a cool little gadget that I’ll get onto later.

hit the road in search of the light

Beth was the first to arrive then soon after Sarah, Dave and Patrick of course. Shouts out to Danica who made it over to see her GGH family. Was a pleasure madam! After a quick briefing and lots of jokes we decided it would probably be a good idea to hit the road in search of the light (Kori Community Charity) where we would be preparing the children's playground railings for painting. The rain had held off and we actually had a very leisurely run to the task chatting lots – as we do. On arrival we were presented with a set of immaculate scrappers that Sarah M had brought with her and they worked a treat.

Out of nowhere classic 90s dance and a few cheesy chart topping guilty pleasures rang out

That wasn’t all we were presented with however. Patrick really did bring the party by pulling out a wicked little gadget thingy that’s a lamp and music player all in one. Out of nowhere classic 90s dance and a few cheesy chart topping guilty pleasures rang out at a considerate level (please note: no neighbours were noised up during this exercise). The first track was from Take That and the musical journey took us through many a classic from Snap “The Power” to Baby D “Let Me Be Your Fantasy” (Andy that drop I was talking about is at 3:13 of the track – click red text for tracks etc.). These tracks really took us back with a few of us singing aloud slightly out of tune but that didn’t matter one bit we were living in two dimensions at this point so didn’t give a damn. In one dimension you had the cheesy quaver (raver) and in the other the dedicated Goodgymer.

humming elaborate bass lines and melodies to the shop assistant

In my case I was taken back to my childhood searching record stores for the latest rave offerings. Just picture a kid in some dingy record shop humming elaborate bass lines and melodies to the shop assistant. Imagine the joy I brought to those shop assistants. These were the first two tracks I ever bought: SL2 – On A Ragga Tip & SL2 – Way In My Brain. "Der der der da da dum" Ha! Very fond memories. Anyways!

our resident DJ providing the theme of the night via his music playing lamp

With all the vigorous scrapping of those painted railings and chin wagging I could see the troops needed some refreshments so I produced some bananas and water before we got going again for the last push. Our time had once again come to an end so we packed up and proceeded to the children’s play area for a round of chin ups – music still playing. Such a good shout Patrick. You’ve started a new craze!! Once we’d had our fill of chins we hit the road again with our resident DJ providing the theme of the night via his music playing lamp. We ran happily to upbeat tunes - onlookers smiling as we passed.

we may have ended up raving the night away

We stopped off for a quick wall sit wave before hitting Phillip Lane and the home straight. As we approached HQ I prompted all to engage in our usual sprint finish. Andy’s got some legs on him I’ll tell ya. Great effort by all. On arrival we were in party mode for our warm down and stretches outside the leisure centre, sadly we did have to do the responsible thing and turn the music off as we entered HQ to finish our stretching. Probably a good job as we may have ended up raving the night away and I think one or two of us had a different type of workout planned.

I really would like to make this a regular Friday thing a 90s Rave Run and fitness session perhaps?

I’ll leave you with a few track that started my journey through dance music all those years ago. If you were down back in the day you’ll be sure to know one or two – enjoy!

Johnny L – Hurt You So

Smart E's – Sesame's Treet

Urban Hype – Trip to Trumpton

Until next week folks – stay good, keep fit and look out for the light.
