Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
29 romantic heroes ran 10km to sort out all sorts at the award winning GoodGym Wandsworth last night.
With Ana away is was up to Hackney runner Ed (that’s me!) to lead the troops. I hadn’t been at Wandsworth since the launch so it was great to see how much it’s grown. And what a night for it! Just 3 days previous GoodGym Wandsworth was named Physical Activity Project of the Year at the Active Wandsworth Awards. Such an incredible achievement seeing as it’s running less than 6 months. Cheers, whoops, back slaps and hugs all round. Well done to all the runners that made it happen.
To the evening’s run and task. Big shout to Tatum, Laura, Adirenne and Ben who joined us for the first time. Welcome to the club, give them a cheer! In Ana's absence Vicki set this weeks CoRundrum:
As an extra special romantic icebreaker I also wanted to know what everyone’s most embarrassing first date story was. I never did get to hear these. That might have been because people thought I said “what are your most embarrassing first aid stories”. Not sure which would be worse!
It was a long run this week: 5km each way, but we attacked it as you would expect award winners to. We headed South from the BAC towards Tooting and soon found the treasure we were seeking at the Work and Play Scrapstore. What an incredible place. As we gathered in the entrance Rachel explained the mission of the organisation: to recycle, reuse and repurpose a whole load of donated materials which are then used by range of groups such as schools, charities, community groups, arts organisations, students and families. It was an awesome sight. Rows and rows boxes and shelves full of useful materials which would have been destined for landfill but will now get to fulfil their true potential. Amazing! We quickly split into teams:
In 30 minutes we were out of there and back into the night. Lining up against the wall outside I challenged eveyone to run on the spot, pump their arms but keep their legs moving at a slower pace. Try it at again. It’s impossible!! If you ever need reminding of how important arms are to running then this is a great one to do.
Another 5km? No problem. We were soon back at BAC and stretching out after another great evening. Ana is back next week when you’ll be heading to the Battersea Community Gardens. Sign up here
Oh, and if you ever try to get into parliament wearing armour you’ll be arrested. It’s illegal!
