Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Benjamin Annear
15 GoodGym runners ran the streets of Cardiff on what was a great fun run to help out Cardiff Foodbank!
Tonight 15 of us gathered together for an epic 5km run! As per usual we began with a headcount and warm-up. We acknowledged and welcomed two new runners to GoodGym Cardiff, welcome Owen and Joseph - Do come again as your enthusiasm tonight was tip top!!! Red Lace Alert Rachel and Maya got their single red laces for bringing their friends along. Our warm up also consisted of a new game, yes NEW GAME ALERT. We played high knees stop, Ben got everyone doing high knees and when he said stop, everyone stopped and whoever moved was 'out' (they actually had to keep jogging on the spot or it defeated the point of a warm up); Rosie and Darren won the game - Well done both!!
We then headed off to our task
It was a fantastic run with Mikey being our human sat nav and Emma and Stuart backmarking (The backmarkers make sure that nobody gets left behind - and they did a fantastic job of it as we didn't need to send out any search parties!). When we needed to regroup Ben set everyone mini challenges... 10 press ups, 20 squat jumps... all running specific exercises that works the body to help strengthen core muscles used for running.
Welcome to the Cardiff Foodbank
After 1.7 miles we had arrived! There to greet us was Share. Share works at Cardiff Foodbank and was our task organiser for the evening. Share told everyone about the Foodbank and then explained our task for the evening.
Runners, you have 30 minutes to paint and varnish 3 containers and to date food items... 3, 2, 1 GO
Runners got straight to it. Lucy, Emma and Aimee painted one box with Darren varnishing. Rachel, Mikey and Owen took to painting and varnishing boxes too. Rosie, Rachel, Lydia and Joseph took to sanding and painting another box. Ben had to remind everyone to contain themselves!
Whilst all this was going on Stuart, Maya and Lorena were moving cakes! ... Ben thought this was the perfect time for food for thoughts and laid down the gauntlet for riddle of the run.
RIDDLE OF THE RUN What container has no hinges key or lid, yet golden treasure lies inside?
In less than 20 minutes the runners had sanded, painted and varnished the 3 containers and all the cakes had been moved too. Everyone then joined forces to date items. Puns were flying out.
Time is up!!
In what felt like no time at all 30 minutes was up! Share was amazed by how much got done in 30 minutes and informed runners where the containers are going to be placed in Cardiff. 1 is going to the Gym, another is going to Asda in Leckwith and the third is yet to be placed... Who can try and find the last container when it goes out?
We bid you a fond farewell until our next visit!
It was so lovely spending our time at the foodbank and with Share, the task organiser for this week... Share has a number of tasks in mind for us and we are excited for more runs there to help out! :)
We then ran back to Yr Hen Lyfrgell, splitting into racers and pacers... It was rather humorous watching Mikey lead the fast group off in one direction, only to see them all 5 minutes later as they had run the wrong way - Mikey did say he was going to put the runners through their paces!
*Another successful task complete and a good deed in the bank - Thanks for a fun run all! :) *
RunPunStiltskin Winner Well done to Darren who is this weeks winner of the RunPunStiltskin award - His pun was punderful!
Well done to Emma who won the tweet off that went down in the Glassworks after the run (Martin also took part from the comfort of his home! But unfortunately wasn't successful at winning the tweet off this week)

Nice report Ben. For the record though I did not win the high knees game sadly!
