Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
11 do gooders hit the streets, took on the Kori railings and thrashed out some tabata (not ciabatta)
There seemed to be a little more activity than usual going on at the Tottenham Green Leisure Centre which is GG Haringey’s HQ. There seemed to be a lot more fresh faced sporty types hanging around. I was then enlightened to the fact The Haringey Celebrating Sport Award Ceremony was taking place there. I then bumped into a colleague who was nominated for an award. Hope you were successful in your category Nessa.
GG legend Patrick Luong
All this excitement only added to the evening’s proceedings. I was very happy to welcome a couple of new faces along with having the pleasure of welcoming back the GG legend Patrick Luong. Shouts out to Hannah, Becky and Dawn. Dawn was unable to run with us but hopefully she'll be joining us in the coming weeks. She seemed very keen. Oh and it was lovely to welcome back Janus. After lots of chatting 7pm was upon us so we made our way outside to do a quick warm up. I was very pleased to mention that this week we would be getting stuck into some tabata training as we’d not had the opportunity to do a fitness session for a while due to running longer distances to get to tasks along with dedicating a little more time on each task.
remnants of storm Barney
Much like the remnants of storm Barney we were off like the wind. Just before doing so we were joined by Dashing Dave. We proceeded in a brisk run toward this week’s light - the Kori community charity centre, to get stuck into our good deed. Sarah M had peeled off en route to grab her favoured scraper (being the super keen DIY buff she is). On arrival everyone gathered to claim their favoured tool to chip scrap and scratch away at the railings of the children’s playground, which is attached to the Kori centre. Moments later Sarah re-joined us. It was great to see everyone waste no time in getting stuck in. While everyone attacked the railings they engaged in light-hearted conversation. Meanwhile myself, Chris and Patrick spoke about the wonderful work Chris does in the field of cancer research. The conversation, of course, touched heavily on nutrition and power of the mind. We also spoke of the great things that Patrick has been up to for the Giving Tuesday campaign and his efforts this coming Tuesday 1st December, where we’ll be meeting up to run and donate warm jackets to the needy here in London. as ever it seemed like it was over all too quickly
We had reached the end of the task and as ever it seemed like it was over all too quickly but that just goes to show we are slightly overzealous when it comes to doing good in our community – we love it! After a few silly pics and the now mandatory round of high fives we hit the streets again, heading back towards GGH HQ. This week of course we would be stopping off to do some tabata. We stopped off at the foot of Downhills Park on the square outside Park view School. A few of us joked about what’s a matter… oh tabata and this is tabata not ciabatta. Burpees, horizontal mountain climbers and vertical mountain climbers were the order of the day; and these guys smashed them out in style. As they did so I couldn’t help but notice a little boy walking passed with his mother mimicking the burpees we were doing- super cute!
sprint finish along the home straight
With the mini tabata session over and done with in little over 3 minutes everyone got their breath back and we were off again. We picked up the pace just a tad for this last stretch and as usual we did our sprint finish along the home straight. I just want to say well done to Janus at this point who put in a huge effort. Good stuff Janus.
After a warm down session and a little banter we were all set and ready to head homeward bound for some well-deserved din dins and some well needed concoctions to rid us of the immanent threat of man flu. Another good deed did!
Until next week folks – stay good, keep fit and look out for the light.
